Physical and chemical properties: Colorless transparent flammable and volatile liquid. Has an ether odor and pungent taste. Turns pale yellow in air and when exposed to light. Miscible with ethanol, ether, chloroform, and other organic solvents, slightly soluble in water.
Uses: Used as an ethylating agent in organic synthesis, and also as a raw material for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, and fragrances. Can be used as a solvent, refrigerant, and fumigant.
